General information

Area of Vrlika region is situated in the northwest of Split-Dalmatia parishes, hidden between the Dinara mountains and Troglava on the Northeast and Great Kozjak and Svilaja on the southwest.

This region includes areas of Svilaja and Dinara and rocky fields that separate them - Cetinsko and Paško field in the north and Vrlika field.

Source of river Cetina - Vrlika is located around the source of the river Cetina. Cetina is the longest Dalmatian river. Her journey of 105 km to the sea begins at the foot of the Dinara. It should be emphasized its three sources: the largest Glavas, then Vukovic vrilo and Batica vrilo.

Perucko lake is artificial lake on the river Cetina founded by building 56 m high dam near the village of Donji Bitelić, for the purposes of HE Peruča. Then they flooded a village and monastery Draganic (built in 1395). In September 2003, due to the drought that has lowered the water level of the lake, the monastery has "emerged".

Fortress "Window" was built at the turn of the 14th to the 15th century. After preservation is one of the most important medieval fortress in the Dalmatian hinterland.

The Church of St. Salvation is one of the most important pre-Romanesque Croatian buildings, was built in the last quarter of the 9th century. In the area around the church discovered a large medieval cemetery with more than 1,100 graves.

Among the many grave finds particular are luxuriously made earrings and parts gilded silver belt with stylish features Gothic (preserved in the Museum of Croatian Archaeological Monuments in Split).

Cesma is a park from the 19th century where rises one of the many tributaries of the river Cetina. Source has three entrances thanks to the stone steps, and the water flows out of six stone spout on the wall.

Cesma is the most original stage. Every summer there is preformed play 'Ero'.

Plate Bridge is a stone bridge on the river Cetina. It is a complex of medieval megaliths, which were originally used as tombstones. This is a unique example of bridging the river, and is located close to many archaeological sites, of which the most important Romanesque church of Sv. Salvation with a cemetery.

The greatest delicacies of this region are Vrlika bread and Uštipak.

Maraština white is considered as an indigenous variety that belongs to the group Malvasia. It is distributed throughout the whole wine region of coastal Croatian, although it is most common in the Vrlika and settlement Oklaj.

In Vrlika there is an unwritten rule that the grape harvest is performed only after Rožarica, as soon as possible through the October.
