General information

Municipalities that are located in this region are: Long Island and Sali.

Long Island is the largest island in the North Dalmatian islands. On the island there are eleven settlements, Sali is the largest settlement and also the seat of the municipality. Sali is located in the southern part of the island.

The island has a lot of natural beauty, particularly the Nature Park Telešćica in the southern part of the island, Big and a Small lake near Žman, bay Solinšćica and Saharun. On the island there are 3 lakes and many small islands and reefs are located near the island.

Telešćica Nature Park features three basic phenomena:

Telašćica Bay as the largest and safest natural port on the Adriatic,

Long Island cliffs rising up to 200 m above the sea and descending to a depth of 90 m, and

Salt Lake Peace which has medicinal properties.

The status of the protected area Telašćica was awarded in 1980.

Frightful furnace is cave which is also one of the natural beauty of this island and it is located in the central part of the village Savar.

CULTURE AND SIGHTS

Villa Rustica is a Roman complex located in the Park. It is a large Roman country mansion which is partly excavated.

The remains of the church of St. Ivan - this is the parish church dating back to 10-11. century

Grpašćak fortress was built during the Austro-Hungarian Empire (1911 years ago) and it was used exclusively as a reconnaissance in Austro-Hungarian Navy.

Veli Rat lighthouse was built in 1849, it is 42 meters high and today is the highest lighthouse in the Adriatic.

EVENTS AND TRADITIONS
"Fiesta of Sali is a three-day festival during which is performed famous Donkey Music."

One of the most interesting events are Fiesta of Sali - a three-day festival during which performances and famous Donkey Music.

Donkey Music in 2012 was declared an intangible cultural heritage of the Republic of Croatia.

GASTRONOMY AND WINE

Olive grove field of Sali or "olive forest" is a unique horticultural facility on the Croatian coast. It contains olive trees up to 700 years old. 

In the wider area of the village Sali there are still handled fertile ancient olive groves bordered by neat stone walls.

Regarding of wine, on Long Island are the most common varieties of Merlot and Syrah.
